RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY

Articles radiologic technology, radiologic technology program, associate degree radiologic technology

Radiographers are qualified persons, who take X-Rays, and CT scans for patients. They are technically skilled while radiologist is the one who interprets the images. Radiographers as they are called are also known as Radiologic Technologists, X Ray Technologists, or Imaging Technologists. The technologists take the X-Rays or scans of the different parts of the body and hand it over to the Radiologist who will interpret the pictures and produce a final diagnostic result and give treatment to the patients.
The Technologist has to be very careful to see that the radiation does not pass through himself by protecting himself with radiation shields It is his duty to protect the patient also from dangerous radiation from the equipment. Sometimes the Radiographers ask the patient to drink a contrast medium prepared by him and then take the images of the soft tissues of the body which then become very visible.
Radiologic Technicians are in great demand .They have plenty of jobs available but very few efficient Radiologic technicians available. Some hospitals are on the on look for good Radiologic Technicians. Some hospitals offer high salary and try to retain them. They have jobs available in physician’ office and diagnostic imaging centers.
Once they get enough experience the Radiologic Technologists become Radiologic Assistant. Radiologic Assistants enhance patient care by extending the capacity of the radiologist in the diagnostic imaging environment. Their role is one between the radiologist and the radiographer.
There are so many specialties in Radiology study. They are diagnostic Imaging Technologies, like computerized Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
Others who conduct diagnostic imaging procedures include cardiovascular technologists, technicians, and diagnostic medi-sonographers and nuclear medicine technologies.
As they gain experience the staff technologists are promoted as specialist. Once they become Specialists they can perform CT Scanning, angiography and magnetic resonance imaging.
Experience technologist may be promoted to supervisor, chief radiologic technology and finally department administrator or director. For the director post one should need a master’s degree in business or health Administration
Some Technicians get bored sitting in front of the sophisticated and want to be dynamic and so may instructors or directors or sales Representatives and instructors to teach operating the equipments. They prefer to be a business man rather than a technician. Their technical knowledge will help them to sell the products easily as they could explain about the functioning of the equipment easily. They feel they will earn more as a sales man rather than a technician. The companies offer real good cuts for the sales persons.
They may sell only a few but since the margin of profit is high they quiet a good income. The ultimatum is that whatever is suitable for you and interest you, you do it.
