First they do not need a separate hospital; they can work either on premises or even can open a centre nearby the hospital. Also the billing systems may be separate for the radiologist; some hospitals have everything integrated though in one bill. They have a comparative less work load but very erratic one; you can be expected for duty at any time of the day. A radiologist may require working any time at any day of the week, even in night you can send images of the results and he can interpret it for you, but some images cannot be sent like X ray reports, he may need to see that in person. A radiologist has a doctor degree to so you can ask for recommendations to him too.

Some doctors can interpret the X- rays or some of the required images, but a professional help is really needed when the types of images are changing fast with the modern developments.
